Living Cyber Armor

From Anarchy Online Wiki [AOWiki]

This armor may fulfill, and until level 25 is always available to provide, a mission critical function for players, whether they choose to avail themselves of it or not: it provides a backup armor forever, no matter what level, no matter what Abilities they have or do not have. It has no requirements to wear. It levels automatically up to QL 200. It has generous max health and max nano buffs, and costs no credits. It is also quite bad. It is absolutely not worth using this to fill the Energy hole in Carbonum Armor, since it weaker in every single other damage type, and has less than half Carb's protection for the second of Carb's weakest points: Radiation. And that same low amount against Chemical. And that same low amount against Poison. This armor is better than wearing none, and possibly better than what players might find as drops if they do their gameplay in certain areas and not others. There is, of course, another backup armor, that requires no mission to obtain, costing a grand total of 11,000 credits to level up to 220, and since that is paid 50 per level, it is almost as much an afterthought for lowbies to pay it as for level 200s to contemplate the total cost. Newcomers Armor and its sided variants is better in most respects than Living Cyber, except in two respects: it has no helmet, and it is weaker against common types of damage: Melee, Projectile, and (believe it or not, since Newcomer's is actually better than Carb in this respect), Energy.

The jacket and boots can be procured through missions from the Good Time Party Mixer in Newland City; helmet sleeves and pants after the spiral staircase in Condemned Subway. Gloves can be obtained from either drops or the mission. The mission awards both a male and female body piece at the same time; these are only different in appearance.

Bjorn Krax gives the Living Cyber Armor. In Wartorn Valley, looking West towards the walls of Old Athen, we see Krax at home; he stands facing the south Aegean and Stret West Bank beyond

Subway[edit]

Dropping in the Subway are the following Living Cyber Armor parts:

from the following mobs in the deeper section of the Subway:

  • Eumenides
  • Vergil Aeneid
  • Neural Burnout (rare)
  • Premature Pattern (rare)
  • Incomplete Rebuild (rare)
  • Fragmented Soul (rare)
  • Empty Shell (rare)
  • Melded Pattern (rare)

The humanoid Molested Molecules, Redundant Scans, Shades, the Workmen near the Shades room and Infected Attendant never drop them. Nor do the non-humanoid Fleas, Runners, floating Rages, Infectors and Spider. The drop rate is probably near 5%. Of that chance approximately 25% chance of a Helm, less for Gloves, less still for Pants, and the lowest chance for an Arm piece.

Other Subway mobs, such as Molested Molecules, Redundant Scans and others, never drop them. The helmet drops very frequently, as is appropriate, it being the one piece that players who rely on the Newcomers Armor must replace. The sleeves drop perhaps a little more frequently, but not enough to rely on a pair dropping before multiples of the other pieces, even if you do not count the Helm. If one is using the Living Cyber as backup armor, then perhaps a backup for each piece is desirable, but a backup for both arms is less likely to be needed. There are other uses, though, such as increasing max nano to be able to cast unusually high level Engineer robots and such.

See the Living Cyber Armor section of the Subway article for more info about obtaining the drops there.

Mission[edit]

This mission is available up to at least character level 100 and it seems probable that there is no upper limit on it.

Following the Omni, Neutral or Clan Starter Missions chains to the end will lead at some point to the Goodtime Party Mixer, which is more than can be said for one path through the dialogue introducing this mission, where the subject of the armor is introduced as a non sequitur. It is doubtful that many players miss it, as the word "armor" is great bait.

Body[edit]

  1. While the mission for the Body armor can be cancelled and restarted, and there are about four or five mission locations in the northern half of the east of Stret West Bank given at random, the mission location in Last Ditch itself appears to have been removed or is very rare.
  2. The second mission is in Athen Shire, out the Old Athen west gate or out of the Grid at West Athen (up a floor with the teleporters at the edges and 100 or so Computer Literacy to ascend from the ground floor), but since West Athen and Athen Shire are separate zones, there was never a way to get a mission location in the town. The second mission gives you a Jensen Personal Ore Extractor; this is a real Tradeskill tool used in Nano Crystal Creation to commence the process of turning the harvestable Carbonrich Rock into one of two final ingredients of the familiar Nano Crystals that give characters their Nano Programs, the other being a Programmed Photon Particle Emitter made from an Instruction Disk. Like some of the other Starter Mission items, the player gets to keep it to use or sell; they can be bought anytime at any Trade section.
  3. Go out of the Old Athen east gate and follow the road east-southeast and keep a sharp eye out to find the final NPC at 753 , 584 standing next to a tiny square shack. He gives the armor piece immediately; no need to return to the GTPM.

Boots[edit]

The Gloves bug, where the reward is not given if the Boots mission is undertaken at the same time, is known to the developers and Reps will replace lost items.

Pro 'n' Con[edit]

+ No requirements

+ Levels automatically to character level when equipped, up to QL 200

+ Generously buffs Max Health and Max Nano

- NODROP

- Poor protection against chemical, poison and radiation damage

- Not twinkable, because QL can never be higher than character level

- If a character did not obtain helmet, sleeves or pants before level 26, then these can no longer be obtained
