AOIcon Wiki Extension

wanting to start some discussion here about my intentions to rewrite the wiki extension used for generating item icons and item links to db sites.

Firstly, i'd like to unify it all into a single method, and get rid of the <aoicon> tag requirements. i'm mainly looking into using the info here, On MediaWiki site as a basis. since the original code for the aoicon extension is a horrible mess (dont know who wrote it).

Secondly, i'm going to update its option for which item site to link to. since ao mainframe is gone, and auno doesnt stay very up-to-date. planning on including Xyphos's site (should it be default over auno?) and possibly aodb.us as well.

essentially would need to know how to maintain any legacy formatting, or i think i can make this into a new extension, leaving the current ont in for "legacy" reasons. and that way the new one can use a more logical format for passing options to it.

SO, if i understand the examples.. we could have like {{ #AOICON: <itemID> | <iconSize> | <link or not> }} or such.

Travelling

Under 'Geography' on the main page, it can now read, *[[Travelling]] on Rubi-Ka via [[Whompah]] or [[Grid]]
I made the Travelling article as a catch-all for things like Ferries and compass use, guides to efficient combination of travelling options, and pictures of Wraiths in use that were falling through the cracks. Main Page notice about icons?

How about a biiig ol' sign on the main page urging readers to click on the images to see them full size, and on the icons to go to the Auno listing? No wikis say that about pictures, so it would be a service to wiki users in general. It would be particularly useful to this wiki as there are these snazzy icons here that save so many links. Or, at least, they save links if people know they are links. If people do not know that, they are just pics. Which is ok, still, but it is half as good. Or less, imo, as I think they are greater than the sum of their parts. Anarchangel 22:48, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

User Interface is a better article than Controls, although they complement each other, and should be side by side with that article, linked on the Main Page, please.

Now that Backyards is more of a Travelling and Category:Sightseeing subject than a Beginner Guides subject, might its link be replaced by links to ICC Shuttleport and Nascence Training Grounds, please? Captcha?

Would it be possible to sign this Wiki onto the Captcha program, either in addition to or instead of the mathematical sums required to add ext. links or make pages? In the Captcha system, one word is randomly generated, and the image skewed, and another is an image of text taken directly from archives of material that the Captcha program is translating into electronic storage. So every time you do a Captcha challenge, you are helping archive historical and other material. I believe The Elder Scrolls Wiki uses Captcha, so it works with wikis. domain change-ish

Vhab pointed out to me that apparently wiki.aodb.us is at the top of google search (even over wikia), and suggested the original domain, wiki.aodevs.com should 301 to wiki.aodb.us to further help this new search result status.

so anyone wondering why the site may be redirecting now, its cause i've implimented his suggestion.

Daily Missions
