Pocket Bosses

While there is no true offical name in game for these items, the player base has come to call these things 'Pocket Bosses' and they were the first of the 'Content on Demand' initiatives implimented by Funcom for use with the Shadowlands expansion. The idea of a pocket boss is that you collect pieces of the pattern, mash them all together and go some place to spawn the boss and kill it for Phat L00t. The loot in this regard is often Symbiants, which are like supercharged implants.

There are many different pocket bosses and their pattern peices drop randomly from named mobs around the Shadowlands and even more rarely from their croonies. It should be noted that the pieces of a particular boss will only drop from one small camp of mobs, in a single area. So you wont find 'Gunk' patterns in Nascence, nor will you find them from camping Eremites. One of the best places to find out about information about the actual pocket boss drops and locations to camp the patterns is AO Pocket. When venturing out to fight the bosses though, note that the boss will have more powerful versions of the abilities that the mob camp had that dropped their pattern. Some will even nuke or evade.

The other problematic part of the Pocket Boss process is the Source Filled Crystal. There are two ways to get these crystals. First, is that the empty crystals randomly drop from mobs around the shadow lands. Second, is that there is a series of nano programs for Meta-Physicists that allow them to summon empty crystals. From there you need to take the empty crystal to a Notum Control Tower of ql equal to or higher than the Crystal and right click the crystal on the tower. This will fill the crystal. Keep on your toes though, these notum towers are often jealously guarded by their owners and if you arrive to fill crystals during a time when the tower is 'hot' you might trigger an attack alert!

To use the pocket boss crystal you have made you simply need to travel to a shadowlands incarnator, target the incarnator and right click on the crystal. Doing this will reduce your health to 1 and spawn the boss who will be hellbent on your death, so it is ill advised to kill these bosses alone or without the ability to heal quickly and absorb damage.

Open the tradeskill window (Ctrl-t). Here you can place the two items you want to combine in the left and middle box. The resulting Item will be shown in the right box. Missing skills, or non possible combinations will be shown below. A detailed look on the resulting item is possible with a simple shift-left-click on it. It is recommended to have free inventory space before combining items, else the item will end in the overflow window.
