Condemned Subway

This is dungeon for low level players between levels 5-24.

At level 25 you are unable to enter it.
However if you manage to get past level 24 inside the dungeon you can remain inside, but if you go out you won't be able to get back in.

There are three identical condemned subways located throughout Rubi-Ka which can be accessed by each faction (Omni-Tel, Clan, Neutral). They are separate, which means they are not connected in any way. If you have a friend in the omni version while you're in the neutral version you will not be able to find your friend.

The only subway which all factions can access safely is the neutral one, since both the omni and clan version have guards that would kill any low levels almost instantly.

You can find the condemned subway in Borealis, West Athen and outside Rome Blue.

Note: Don't go inside with friends without being teamed, if the place is full you may end up in two instances of the dungeon, teams always get in the same instance. Also it's unique bosses are impossible to kill without going beyond level 24 there and not exiting until you can kill them them (or you die).

Subway entrance.jpg

The entrance area is filled with billboards for various AO related items that might be familiar, including Helpbot, Gridstream Productions, Dovve's Maps (which is one of the older player-created maps in the game) and Nano Nanny among others.

The subway has a few sections. The upper levels are full of criminal elements like muggers, looters, also old droids and filth fleas. You will come into a main area with entrances to the left and right. To the left you will find 6 shops that you can use to buy and sell items. There is another room past the shops, but it is a dead end with muggers and looters. The left side from the main area will lead you to the next section.

Note: Muggers will attack you on sight anywhere in the subway.

Here is a detailed map of the condemned subway.

The top level

Shop Area

These are the mobs you will face at the top level.
There are some nice items to be found on this level of the dungeon, including a leveling (right-click on it) NCU Morphing Memory, froob shirt (for all you fr00bs that want to represent) and also some mobs drop the leveling (right-click on it) Living Cyber Armor.

Note: Muggers attack on sight, and Looters and Discarded Pets may attack you as well because of it.

Here is a list of all regular mobs in this area with approximate level and the possible loot they may carry.

Name Level Range Loot
Filth Flea 5+ Low QL implants (100%), Monster Parts.
Discarded Pet 6+ Morphing Memory (Requires Computer Literacy and Psychic to use, boosts Computer Literacy and Nano Resistance skills. Upgradeable item, right-click on it.), random nodrop items of no value.
Disobedient Bot 10+ Morphing Memory, random nodrop items of no value.
Looter 8+ Infrequently drops low QL weapons, usually shotguns, and random nodrop items of no value.
Violent Vagabond 8+ Vagabond Coat, Froob Shirt, wine glass, various alcoholic beverages.
Mugger 7+ Infrequently drops random low QL weapons, usually pistols (including the Kaen-Archibald Kolt, an adventurer-only gun, that gives an XP bonus), and more frequently gems and random nodrop otems of no value.

Trainstation Area

As you work your way down you will find a few dead ends, like a corridor leading to a crashed subway. A few drug addicts, former subway workers (who now are unhappy, probably from being unemployed) and dark beasts who love the shadows reside in this area.

At this point you will face the first boss, who is not as tough as he may sound. The Strike Foreman is a level 19 mob, guarded by Workmen Strikers and Architect Strikers. He drops construction set items and sometimes he rarely drops a very nice pair of boots that have the nano Terrain Knowledge built into them, they are called the Boots of Infinite Speed. He is located in a corridor above the subway station that connects both sides of the station.

These are the mobs you will face in this area.

Note: All mobs with the name Striker are social, which means if you attack one, every Striker nearby will attack you (Foreman as well). This also applies to the Shadow mob. Slum Runners attack on sight.

Here is a list of all regular mobs in this area with approximate level and the possible loot they may carry.

Name Level Range Loot
Shadow 14+ Infrequently drops low QL melee weapons, usually one-handed edged, as well as Monster Parts and random nodrop items of no value.
Stim Fiends 13+ Drops low QL Simple First Aid Kits and Simple Nano Kits.
Workman Striker 16+ Drops Construction Sleeves (Engineer-only, requires Tutoring to use, boosts some trade skills), the Support Beam of Opposition (a unique two-handed blunt weapon that sells well), and random low QL armor and ranged weapons.
Workman Architect 15+ Drops Construction Sleeves (Engineer-only, requires Tutoring to use, boosts some trade skills), and random low QL melee weapons.
Slum Runner 18+ Instant aggro, infrequently drops low QL implants and implant clusters.

Subway unique eumenides.jpg Down one of the tunnels in the subway station you will face the second boss guarding the way to the lower levels. Be aware that he is quite formidable and you will need a team of level 15-24 to take him on. Eumenides is a tough soldier, watch out for his burst special. He rarely drops an upgradeable (right-click it) NCU ring which has Treatment requirement to wear. If you manage to take him down, be ready for Infectors and even more Slum Runners as you make your way down.

The bottom level

Cyborg Area

As soon as you get to the bottom of a long spiral set of stairs an Uncontrollable Anger (yes that is its name) will be waiting for you. More Infectors and Slum Runners lie in waiting as you go deeper into the dungeon past the flying beast. You may notice that as you go deeper into the dungeon the room gets darker, so don't be surprised if a mob jumps you from a dark spot you may have missed. Also be aware that there are some areas where you will be blinded by mobs (and this means your screen will go black) so be careful because during those few seconds you may get attacked by other mobs you will not see until you regain your vision.

Getting closer to the end section of the subway there will be a slew of disgruntled failed Cyborg experiments like Fragmented Soul, Premature Pattern, Neural Burnout and others. I highly recommend you be with team of players 15+ to have a chance of survival here.

Note: All humanoid mobs from this point on are social, you attack one and they will all attack you, they also attack on sight. Higher level filth fleas (level 15-20ish) also will be found here, they drop the same loot as the weaker ones.

These are the mobs you will face in this area.

The Catacombs

Alright, you've made it to the final section of the Condemned Subway.

Don't get too happy, because things are going to get harder from here to the end. Something you may miss the an area where there are Carbonrich Rocks (QL 20-60) which is the very raw material used in the process of making a nano crystal.

When you enter an area where there is a Bloodcreeper on the other side of the large room, instead of crossing to the other side, make a right turn and a door to the area where the rocks are will be there. Be careful of the Slum Runners there. I highly recommend you be with team of players 20+ to have a chance of survival here.

After the Bloodcreeper there will be more cyborgs and shadows. The third boss will be right after, guarded by two cyborgs.

Subway unique vergil aeneid.jpg Vergil Aeneid is a tough nanomage, without a team he will be almost impossible to kill (unless you managed to level past level 24 in which case you may have a chance to beat him) and he will attack you on sight. Be aware that some mobs will come to assist him even if you pull him away. From my experience the ones who will come to help him are Slum Runners and Filth Fleas. He rarely drops an upgradeable (right-click it) NCU ring which has Treatment requirement to wear.

You will find a few more cyborgs and at the last room a couple of Infectors guarding the boss' room. The room is pretty big, so you have space to maneuver and run away if you're alone, because Abmouth Supremus is impossible to fight on your own unless you have installed Alien invasion and shadowlands or gone beyond level 24(a few players have done this). For those who haven't done that you will need a team of 20+ with a well prepared doctor. I highly recommend that you also have other healer-type professions like Martial Artist or Adventurer in your team. An enforcer has the best chance to take the great damage he inflicts.

Subway unique abmouth supremus.jpg And here you will see a rare image of the big bad boss Abmouth Supremus, which will probably be the last thing you see before you die if you're alone(without expansion packs downloded) and that close to him (I know from experience).

He rarely drops an upgradeable (right-click it) NCU ring which has Treatment requirement to wear. He also drops the Belt of Justice and Juggler's Treat (both around QL 30 range).
