While there is no true official in-game name for these items, the player base has come to call these things 'Pocket Bosses' and they were the first of the 'Content on Demand' initiatives implemented by Funcom for use with the Shadowlands expansion. The idea of a pocket boss is that you collect pieces of the pattern, mash them all together and go some place to spawn the boss and kill it for Phat L00t. The loot in this regard is often Symbiants, which are like supercharged implants.
There are many different pocket bosses and their pattern pieces drop randomly from named mobs around the Shadowlands and even more rarely from their cronies. It should be noted that the pieces of a particular boss will only drop from one small camp of mobs, in a single area. So you wont find 'Gunk' patterns in Nascence, nor will you find them from camping Eremites. One of the best places to find out about information about the actual pocket boss drops and locations to camp the patterns is AO Pocket. When venturing out to fight the bosses though, note that the boss will have more powerful versions of the abilities that the mob camp had that dropped their pattern. Some will even nuke or evade.
The other problematic part of the Pocket Boss process is the Source Filled Crystal. There are two ways to get these crystals. First, is that the empty crystals randomly drop from mobs around the shadow lands. Second, is that there is a series of nano programs for Meta-Physicists that allow them to summon empty crystals. From there you need to take the empty crystal to a Notum Control Tower of ql equal to or higher than the Crystal and right click the crystal on the tower. This will fill the crystal. Keep on your toes though, these notum towers are often jealously guarded by their owners and if you arrive to fill crystals during a time when the tower is 'hot' you might trigger an attack alert!
To use the pocket boss crystal you have made, travel to a shadowlands incarnator with a level equal or higher than crystal. To summon the boss mob, target the incarnator and right click on the crystal in your inventory. If you are much higher than boss mob (its health bar is grey to you), it will ignore you.
Required skills[edit]
- Quantum Force field Technology (QFT)
- Nano Programming (NP)
Required Items and Tools[edit]
Component | *1 | Location | Minimum Ql |
Aban Pattern Piece | C | Shadowlands Dyna Drop | PB |
Bhotaar Pattern Piece | C | Shadowlands Dyna Drop | PB |
Chi Pattern Piece | C | Shadowlands Dyna Drop | PB |
Dom Pattern Piece | C | Shadowlands Dyna Drop | PB |
Crystal Filled By The Source |
C | Fill Unpolluted Crystal by using it on a Notum War Control Tower of equal or greater QL. Unpolluted Crystal drops from Shadowlands mobs or is summoned by Meta-Physicist casting a Boon of Ergo nano. |
Equal to pattern or higher |
Ancient Novictum Refiner | R | Shadowlands Yuttos Tools merchants or Find Dr. Hestiya Quest |
- |
Novictum Block | C | Shadowlands Spirit Drop | Equal to pattern or higher |
Types of Novictum
These novictum blocks are suitable for use in this process.
The QL of the novictum blocks must be equal to or greater than the QL of the pocket boss.
Tradeskill process[edit]
The combination of items in Anarchy Online works as follows:
Open the tradeskill window (Shift + T). Here you can place the two items you want to combine in the left and middle part. The resulting Item will be shown in the right area. Missing skills, or non possible combinations will be shown below. A detailed look on the resulting item is possible with a simple shift-left-click on it. It is recommended to have free inventory space before combining items, else the item will end in the overflow window.
Now you should find an Incarnator - there are in each SL zone, big constructions with pillar of light in the middle. The QL of the Incarnator has to be bigger than the QL of Pocket Boss. Target the Incarnator and right-click the Novictalized Notum Crystal. The boss will appear. The Crystal is consumed in the process.
