Newcomers Armor

From Anarchy Online Wiki [AOWiki]

This armor's QL can be raised up to the character's level for credits by right-clicking while the armor is in inventory.

Can be modified into side-locked Omni-Tek Newcomers Armor or Joint Clan Newcomers Armor for a different look. The functionality will be the same.

While it is normally bought and modified in the starting area (currently Arete Landing), the armor pieces can be bought at a Basic ICC Armor terminal. The one at ICC HQ Shopping building sells three semi-random QLs of each piece; the higher level pieces cost much more, this way, than it would cost to just level them up, but it would save some time.

It may or may not be possible to find, outside of Arete Landing, the badges used to make Newcomers sided.

Value compared to helmetless QL200 Carbonum Armor
equal/better/worse. Carbonum does not have this bonus

Pro 'n' Con

+ First Aid bonus, not available on Carbonum, makes it a cross between Carb and the strategy of wearing a Medsuit for better healing items, that is somewhat popular for low levels

+ Easy to raise QL up to character's level

+ Easy to get any desired QL (shop buyable at a variety of QLs, then can immediately be raised with credits)

+ No ability requirements (the only requirement to wear is character level)

+ Assuming 50 credits per level per piece, then it is absurdly cheap: an entire career's worth of armor for 1,050 CR

+ Given that it is probably the inevitable choice for first time players, it frees up time and resources for weapons, Nanos and implants

+ Superior to other alternatives to Carbonum, with its bonuses to NCU and max Nano

- NODROP

- No helm

- Not twinkable, because QL is capped by character level, and characters should usually be wearing much higher than their level

- Pursuant to the above, it is furthermore, somewhat weak even compared to Carbonum of the same level
